Let’s Talk about the Girls!

Our girls are our friends, first and foremost. They naturally make amazing mothers with their loving and caring personalities. The majority of their life though, is being companions.

When the family is gone and I’m home alone, you often will find me working or playing outside surrounded by my beautiful pack. They have their favorite spot under the kitchen table or a certain chair in the living room. Some prefer the middle of the room to nap and couldn't care less what’s happening around them or who steps over them. I might be outside, sitting on the wooden swing, updating puppy families, with the dogs laying around me, or else throwing our favorite rubber ball for them to bring back to me. We often work on brushing up on the obedience skills. Whenever we can, we bring a dog or two on our errands to town, or to the local Christmas parade to continue their exposure.

In our home, there are definitely favorites between the different family members. It’s great to see those relationships develop and those individual dogs become extra special to a specific person.

The girls are so individual. There are little quirks about each one that make them unique. They all have the classic loving golden retriever personality, but each one is a bit different.

Each of our dogs are so good with the kids. Good with the kids is a must around here as I have young children as well as into the teenage years. I won't / wouldn’t keep a dog that I couldn’t trust with the young children. We teach our kids to respect the dogs and to treat them appropriately, but the dogs have their part in that also.

Sitka

Stonewick’s Sitka

A cream golden retriever is often referred to as an English Cream. It’s not a different breed, but often it’s because the cream lines often are coming from European countries. Sitka is one of those. Both of her parents were born in Europe to multi-champion bloodlines.

This cream girl’s focus in life is people. When we are out playing with the dogs in the yard and everyone is wondering around, doing their own thing, Sitka is with a person. She will go after a ball, but only of the fancy strikes her.

When she was a puppy I made the mistake of allowing her to get up on my lap. She loved it so much, she still wants to climb up in my lap. If I sit on the ground for some reason, she will most definitely find my lap.

She is confident, but not like an alpha type of confidence. Just a solid, steady girl who gets along with everyone.

Sitka is 70#-75#

Stonewick’s Cayenne

Cayenne

50# - 55#

Cayenne loves me. According to Cayenne, I hung the moon and stars. She’s what I call a velcro dog. If I'm in the kitchen, she’s in the kitchen. If I go outside, she wants to be outside. She loves to go to town and run errands with me. When I tell her no though, and go in my room, or close the bathroom door, she will just quietly lay down and wait. She will chose someone else to love if I'm gone for the day, but I am definitely her preference,

Cayenne is very intelligent and wants to please. She’s good with my cavalier Claire who is the size of a golden puppy. She’s interested in the tiny kittens, but does know she needs to behave with them.

The rubber chew king balls that we love… she loves so much. She will fetch until she’s utterly worn out if allowed. Some dogs can be annoying when they want to play. She is not. If we pick up the ball to play, then yay, but she never pushy about it.

Bridget

55#-60#

Stonewick Golden Retriever Bridget

Stonewick’s Bridget

Bridget is another example of what’s referred to as an “English Cream” Golden Retriever. Very European based bloodlines. Her dad was born in Ireland, and her mom’s parents are from Yugoslavia and Serbia.

She’s a bit more on the independent side. Enjoys being with her people but on her terms. She’s not really interested in playing with a ball, but give her some water and this girl couldn’t be happier. Even a mud puddle, if you have one, she will find it and she will absolutely wallow in it!

Bridget is another one who gets along with everyone. She’s confident and very easygoing. She is a great mom and has raised her puppies with lots of love. She does great with my kids and isn’t phased by much at all.

Creole

70#-75#

Stonewick’s Creole

Creole is special to my heart. She’s a granddaughter to my very first golden retriever. She had a very dark mom, and a very cream dad. a perfect example of what happens when a dark is bred to a light golden.

Creole is kind of a lazy girl. She’s happy to go along with whatever you are doing, but she doesn’t have to. She’s just happy be loved and to be a part of the family. If you want to go for a walk. absolutely, she’s game. Stay home today, she’s lay at your feet. Give her another dog to play with, for sure!

She’s confident and another “get along with everybody” girl.
